Tobacco FactFile presents key facts and data about tobacco. The Tobacco Control Resource Centre developed Tobacco FactFile in response to a growing need from researchers, doctors and national medical associations for an information tool with key facts about tobacco to assist in creating reports, policy documents, campaigning materials and for general interest.

The FactFile database contains facts about tobacco use and control with the original reference, which can be printed or downloaded into a citation manager such as Reference Manager or ProCite. The database is also available in Spanish, German and French. Browse or search the online database for information on health, economics, and policy. Find data and statistics on your country, or across a region. Register to receive facts by e-mail, or download facts and sources to a citation database.

FactFile differs from other databases currently available online. Rather than being a traditional bibliographic database, it focuses on providing ready access to key pieces of information, with the assurance that these have been selected by experts in the field.

The content of FactFile has been built up using a wide variety of sources. The facts contained in the subject areas of Health, Economics, Policy and Tobacco industry come predominantly from peer reviewed journals, scientific publications and monographs and from governemtnal reports.

The Country Facts have been built using authorititive information sources such as Tobacco Atlas, the Global Youth Tobacco Survey and the IARC Cancer Mortality database amongst others. This section has been made possible through kind collaborations with our colleagues in the field of international tobacco control.

Features

Tobacco FactFile has been designed to provide straight forward access to the key facts about tobacco. The features of this database and website are:

• Download or print references: Once you have found the facts you want, simply select the download button and the facts will be translated into a text file for downloading inot your citation manager package, i.e. Reference Manager of ProCite
• Your Fact List: You can select any number of facts and transfer them into your fact list in a shopping basket style. Simply select the facts you want to store and using the My Fact List button at the bottom of the page, transfer the facts into Your Fact List.
• Sign Up: Sign up to receive a randomly selected fact every week or every month.
• Banner: Request a FactFile banner to use on your website. A new fact will be displayed each time the site is visited or the when page is refreshed.
• Submit a fact: Send us your suggestions and comments on FactFile.
• Comment on this fact: Use the 'Comment on this fact' dialogue to let us know your views on an existing fact.
